Lyla Says

Our girl is 16 months old and so much fun! I love watching her personality and independence emerge, with still a lot of baby-ness. This is my favorite age!

About Miss Thing:
  • Can climb the rock wall and go down the slide of Emmet's playhouse all by herself
  • Colored on the wall with a sharpie and ate cat food on the same day... oops
  • Loves to wear necklaces and bracelets and pretending to rub lotion on her legs
  • Plays with her baby dolls now, instead of just brother's toys, and likes to tell them "shhhhh" and "nigh-nigh" and bring them to me to do the same
  • Loves to be outside and playing in the water/bath time
  • Said her first full sentence last week: "No no no bruh-ba, no no no! Mine! Mine!"
  • Is obsessed with reading Madeline and more recently the Pat the Bunny book and Llama Llama Red Pajama.

Saying "Pooh-pooh" along with "To the tiger in the Zoo, Madeline just said 'pooh-pooh!'"

She is much more reserved with new people than Emmet has ever been, but she is a little chatter box at home and is such a ham and so funny and spirited! Not to mention, she is just plain adorable!

She is literally learning new words everyday. In fact while I was typing this she saw that picture above and said "Ma-mine" for Madeline. Here are all of her words at 16 mos:

Dada
Bruh-ba
Dodeh
Zzzzuu, now Zzzu-Zzzzu
Ba-bo
Baba
Ow-di (outside)
Dowwww (down, she says it for up too)

Pop pop (popsicle)
Appa (apple)

"No no no, bruh-ba, mine!"

Lyla turns ONE

I can't believe our sweet Lyla Kennedy is already ONE year old! She got to spend her birthday in the middle of the ocean on the Disney Cruise, so she had a very fun day!

Here she is at her birth moment:

My Birthday Twins - Lyla and Daddy at their Birthday Dinner!

And with the women who birthed them

Lyla at ONE YEAR

Walking since the end of 10 months
Eats anything and everything - brisket is her favorite!
Smiles and laughs all the time
Loves to explore and get into things - especially pulling things out of the cabinets
Loves going outside and swinging!
Still uses her paci for nap and bedtime. She twists it in her mouth when she is going to sleep
Thinks her "bruh-ba" is soooo funny and is always watching what he's doing
Is a Mama's girl and I love to have her by my side all day
And she FINALLY says "Mama"
Loves her Dada so much and gets so excited to see him or call him on the phone - and she talks about him all day while he's at work
Pretends to talk on the phone a lot"hey-o?"
Has 7 teeth - four on top, three on bottom
Has been to Puerto Rico and the Castaway Cay in the Bahamas
Loves to Dance!
Her favorite toys are her princesses and castle that Carlyle gave her, her picnic basket, and whatever toy of Emmet's she can get away with playing with before he notices
Is starting to play with her baby dolls - "nigh nigh" baby

She is really just the sweetest little girl! We are so smitten with her and can't wait to see more of her personality emerge in the year to come.
Mama and Dada love you so much, Lyla Belle!

Lyla's First Year

What a year it has been with our beautiful baby girl! It's amazing how this new person comes into the world and completes you in a way you didn't know you even needed. I don't know how we ever lived a day without her! She is so sweet and happy and loving and fun!

Longwood

We had so much fun touring Longwood while we were in Natchez for Spring Pilgrimage! What a unique house with an interesting story. We also had fun dressing the kids up and taking some pictures on the grounds outside.

I think it looks like they are sharing secrets in this next one :)

Someone on our tour saw Lyla playing by a tree and couldn't see me and thought she was either a character or a ghost because she was dressed on theme! :)

Post Nap Photo Fun

Lyla woke up from her nap with cute and curly bed-head, so I felt the need to snap a few pictures! But she was being so cute, I just kept going :)

Then she got mad I wouldn't let her play with the camera...

Her signature head tilt

These are my favorites!
"Touchdown Lyla!"

And then Brother woke up and joined in...

but only for a minute before his sillies kicked in :)
