Emmet Says

Ooo-bee, Ooo-bee!

Some of Emmet's favorite things right now are school buses, or "oo-bee."
So he and I headed down to the elementary school today around 3 pm for a big dose of Ooo-bee!

One of the bus drivers let Emmet sit in the driver's seat!

He was so excited!

We also walked through the playground, and there is a big map of the USA. I snapped two pictures of Emmet as he was running through it, and it happened to be when he was in Dallas...

... and Natchez (ish)!

Bye-Bye Gluten!

Oy vey, what a whirlwind of a stressful month it has been! From the initial symptom of no weight gain over 3 months to low appetite and energy to blood tests to specialists to more blood tests to an endoscopy... Emmet has Celiac Disease. I am so grateful for our wonderful pediatrician, Dr. Yaeger, who was on top of Emmet's growth and our new GI specialist at Children's, Dr. Channa. I am also grateful for health insurance!
Chad and I of course never want our little guy to have any illness/condition/anything that he has to deal with for his whole life and might make him feel different sometimes. I doubt any parent would. But I am so thankful that it's just Celiac! He is so young, he won't even know the difference; there are so many gluten-free options out there these days; there is actually something productive that we can do to make him feel better; and this will make him a healthier guy over all! From all of this, my heart really goes out to parents whose children have harder things to fix.
So, Mrs. Positive over here is excited! Emmet is special with his very own special foods!

Gluten-free stash! They have everything- oatmeal, cookies, crackers, bread, pasta, baking mixes, etc. Yay for Whole Foods!

Super big THANKS to Aunt Andree for our new cookbook, too! There is even gluten-free gumbo in there!

Why I Love October

Why I love the month of October... in no particular order... and much less eloquently than above:
  • The Great Mississippi River Balloon Race! We have gone every year since I met Chad. So fun!
  • Chad asked me to marry him
  • The birthdays of some of my favorite people: Tabatha, Uncle Alex, Carlyle, Moriah, Mattie, Jessica...
  • The State Fair of Texas
  • Halloween!
  • Fall weather... ahhh! We get a sneak peak in September, but October is so nice!
  • Boots with tights :)
  • Candy corn - which I eat whilst ignoring my husband's comments about how gross they are
  • I found out I was going to be a Mommy!
  • The Pumpkin Patch - I can't wait to take Emmet this year; I think he will get it a little more! I'm sure he will run all around yelling, "Mumpy!!" (which is what he calls pumpkins)
  •  Yellows and oranges and dark reds of nature
  • Comfort food like chili, potato soup, and pumpkin everything

Happy October to You!

*UPDATE - Memaw told me yesterday that she loves October as well because her first date with my Papaw was October 21, 1946 and they went to the fair!! I love that!! So add that to my list :)
